i cant access my external hard disk in computer

my seagate 500 gb hard drive is not been detected by my computer. when i connect it says " the usb you are trying to connect mal functioned , windows cannot detect it".. but when i connect my hard drive with my tv i can access it and i can open files and play. plz help me to solve this..

It was on a Samsung that could record to the HDD and the format was incompatible with the PC. At this point it took 20 minutes to detail all the details. I can't type for a hour so let's move back to the PC and ASSUME this is not one of those TVs that record to the HDD.

Try the rear USB port of the desktop. If it's a laptop the AC power must be on and you MUST use the USB cable that came with the drive.

Try your disk in another computer

As you have written i think your disk were hitted by virus (mal functioned), some times due to virus the system creates the problem in recognizing them. Try on another machine, check the cable properly and make it virus free.
