I cannot access my internet options or download anything!

Oct 29, 2009 11:03PM PDT

I am on Windows XP. I am unable to see my internet options - both while in IE (from the tools menu) or from my control panel. I was considering downloading Firefox, but didn't know if that would solve my problem or not. When attempting to do that, I discovered that I cannot download anything! In the control panel, the icon for internet options is there, but it won't let me open it. While in IE, my menu bar at the top is gone and my right-click won't let me get it back. I don't know where to start!

kjvest, For the Internet Options problem go to the link below, click on "Win XP Fixes" (left side), click on "Fix Internet Options Restriction" (left column), then click on "xp_fix_internetoptions.vbs" to download a vbs file. Follow the Usage instructions on the page.

For the missing Menu bar in IE go to the link below and under the letter "T" scroll down to "Toolbar Repair" and download the "Toolbar Repair Utility".

Use A Different Computer?

Download the file, copy it to a CD or flash drive, then transfer to the problem machine.

Another option is to click on the "Download" button on the page which "should" show you the internal text of the .vbs file in a white page.. You should then be able to highlight all of the text listed in the white page. Once it's highlighted, RIGHT click on it, choose "Copy", then open Notepad on your computer to open a blank text document on the computer.. When the blank text document is open, RIGHT click in the middle of the blank area, choose "Paste".. The text from the internet page should be copied to the text document on your computer.. Now save the document and rename it as anything with a .vbs file extension.. Something like: text.vbs would be fine.. Once the file is renamed, double click on it to run the fix from the DougKnox site.

Hope this helps.
