General discussion

I can't make a zip file get smaller!

Jun 28, 2008 12:17AM PDT

I am trying to e-mail a powerpoint presentation that is 36MB. I have tried WinZip and PKZip both and when I try to zip the file the "zipped" file is still the same size or just a tiny bit smaller. I have looked through all of the options of both programs and can't find a way to do anything different. What the heck am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Nancy

Not broken. Here's why.

The file you are trying to zip is likely already compressed. MP3, video files are compressed so trying to compress those is pointless.

Same problem

I'm havering same problem with zipping files and having them come out only slightly smaller. Most are jpgs and not already compressed.

JPEGs are already compressed

Just like the MP3, nothing is amiss here. Hard to compress what's already compressed.

Any chance you have a full version of Adobe Acrobat ....

If yes....you can convert it to a PDF and that's always worked for me shrinking PPTs.

Thanks to you both. I'm relieved to know why I couldn't get the zip thing to work although it doesn't solve my problem of trying to share the file. No, wish I had the full Adobe program but I don't. I tried to upload the file to google, box.com and yahoo but none allow a file that large for free. I will probably just burn to CD and mail unless somebody can suggest an alternative.

Another option ...segment the PPT into mailable file sizes.
