I can't improve screen resolution and colors

I suddenly can't get a better resolution that 480x640 and 16 colors, even restarting the PC with other parameters; I tried to slow the accelerating processes as suggested by the Help of Windows, I checked the PC with an antivirus (Panda Titanium) but without result. I had sometimes while restarting a message about RUNDLL32 causing an error in some files (MMSYSTEM.DLL, KERNEL32.DLL). Thank you for reading this, and my deep gratefulness if you can help me.

The video driver may need to be installed just like the person at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6618-0.html?forumID=6&threadID=16467&start=0 found out.

Thanks a lot for the topics you gave; using Aida32, I could identify an accelerating driver (NVIDIA)for my Gforce graphic card, driver which could have been recently modified. I reloaded it from the site and also used (ut aliquid) a debug item from the Aida program; everything sems to run the right way now.
