It's been 2 months now but as luck had it at the office we got to install XP (original) and refresh our memory about this area.

Paragraph 1 is critical along with getting the machine to SP3.

Since you don't know how to update the driver, that's the problem right there. The stock driver on the machine we had would not support WPA2 so we had to go to the laptop maker's web site and find it there.

-> You bring up a good point. With today's users is it time to forget XP? Most of them are upset over issues like this and demand support that doesn't exist. Some of them want a fix it all driver finder app and we know there are none.

Maybe XP's time has come?
