I can't get any cp to reconize my mp3 player or usb chords.

i keep hooking my mp3 up to my cp and it wo't reconize it , so i switched usb chords , still nothing so then I try switching cp's but nothing ...I have a SYLVANIA smp 2002 2gb mp3 with bout 30 songs ...I have no clue what's happening can some one please help me?
