I can't find this canon camera! 40X zoom?

Jul 10, 2010 11:48AM PDT

okay so i was at a concert and the woman in front of me had an awesome camera. the way she zoomed into her subjects was amazing. I have a sony dsc t-10 and I had to capture pics of the screen because my camera would not zoom in close enough to the stage. She was able to and the image was amazing. I noticed that each time she did that the detail on her lcd read 36x or 40x. i have looked at the canon cameras and the manuals say up to 20x digital zoom. So I am confused. Help! I want that camera. Do you think maybe she had an SLR camera?

DSLRs don't deal with "zoom"

They use focal lengths and that isn't even on the screen. What she was doing was using digital zoom. It's more like cropping a photo. It doesn't zoom in any closer than another 20x camera. The Canon SX210 has a 4x digital zoom, which means that it can zoom to 80x, but it's not really doing that. What you end up doing with digital zoom is making a 12MP image into a 2MP image. It's better to do it on the computer.
