I can't download enlarged thumbnail pics

May 21, 2005 8:47AM PDT

On some websites I can't download the enlarged thumbnail pic. I'm able to right-click on a thumbnail pic and choose ''Save Picture As...'' and it downloads just fine to my hard drive as a tiny pic. Here is my problem though: On the website, when I click on the thumbnail to get the big version of the pic and then right-click on the enlarged version and save it to my hard drive, it is saved as 'space.gif'. When I open it there is either nothing there or a tiny vertical line is displayed...but no 'enlarged' pic. I tried changing the filename from 'space' to another word (while keeping the gif format, of course) both before and after downloading, but the same thing happens. Why is this? Is there any software that will allow you to download enlarged thumbnails that are named 'space.gif' (on some websites all the enlarged thumbnails have this same filename) from a webpage to your hard drive and have itopen properly? I have Windows98. Thank you.

Share the web site URL and the picture that this occurs on. Some web site employ odd encoding to stop easy lifting of the pictures.

Without this detail, I can't see if this is the issue.

As always, clear the Temporary Internet Cache and try again.

i agree with the other post.. it might just be the website... does this happen on different sites? or just the same one...?
sometimes when they guys that write websites need to adjust a pic or something to show right they add empty space in the form of a gif or other pic type... what you might try doing also is that i know that somewhere on your machine the pics that you see on the websites are saved in a folder... this is by default as it makes going back and forth from one page to another easier... i can't remember where the folder is right off the top of my head but if you see the large pic on the screen it should be saved on your system. that's why sometimes you have to clear the cache... i'll post where the folder is if i can remember... hope this helped...
