I can't burn cds on my LiteOn SOHC 52/32/52+16

Jan 30, 2005 3:25AM PST

I have problem with my LiteOn combo drive. becouse it dosen't read blank cds.
It reads cd with data, blank cd-rw, dvd without any problem.
Sometimes (when I put cd many times) it recognizes it.
I tried different cds.
My lens are clean.
I tried burn cds with Nero and FilrBurner.
I have WinXP SP2.

Confusing

You said in your first sentence:

>>>>I have problem with my LiteOn combo drive. becouse it dosen't read blank cds.>>>>

And the very next sentence you indicate this:

>>>>>>It reads cd with data, blank cd-rw, dvd without any problem.>>>>>

So, does it read blank cd's or not?

Have you tried going to LiteOn to see if there are any firware updates for the cdburner itself?

Have you gone to Nero's site to see if there is an update available that will update the cdrom drivers list database so that it might include your brand if it's not in their list already?

It doesn't read only blank CD-R.
It reads blank cd-rw and cd,cd-rw,dvd with data without any problem.
Yes, I tried firmware for LiteOn and upgrades for Nero- no result.

Since the CDR is blank, what could be "read"?

there is a big difference

between not reading a blank CD-R and a burner not recognizing a blank CD-R is in the drive. Have you tried a different brand or speed? Have you rebooted your computer and the problem remains?

Ok, maybe it is difference. I'm from Poland, when I say that my drive doesn't read blank cd's it means that it doesn't see them. It can't read cd's when nothing's on them.
My mistake.
I tried other speed, I've rebooted computer- nothing.

Has it ever worked correctly?
Jan 30, 2005 8:13AM PST

Did the software programs you use come with either the computer or the CD burner?

Yes, it worked.

It worked correctly, but I don't knew when it stopped working correctly. Maybe when I upgraded firmware? But I'm not sure. But it can't be the reason, becouse I used official LiteOn firmware, I did it as they said.
Software programs came with computer.

roll back driver or try uninstalling the drive
Jan 30, 2005 7:03PM PST

Go to the device manager and find the CD-RW. You can find it by right clicking on my computer, left click on properties, hardware then device manager. Find your burner and double click on it. Select the driver tab then pick roll back driver. Reboot and try to make a CD.

If that doesn't work, try to uninstall it. Follow the instruction above to find the CD-RW. Right click on it and select uninstall. Reboot or restart the computer and try again.

I did it and nothing.

What color are the disks?
Jan 30, 2005 11:03PM PST

Perhaps the firmware update changed something in how the laser can recognize different colored disks. I have old cdroms that can see the blue/silver color just fine, but none of the newer cdroms (generic term for all cd devices) can tell that there is a disk in the drive for those cd's. I can only use the GOLD/GREEN color (except for the purple that are DVD's) for cdr/cdrw disks and get good results.

Color? Maybe you are right.

I didn't think about color before, maybe it's the reason. I will buy tommorow different discs and I'll try it.

Thank you very much.

Still nothing.

Color of discs wasn't reason of my problem. It still don't see blank cd-r in drive.
