I can "see" the network, I just can't connect to it...

Mar 14, 2006 1:14AM PST

My work laptop at my office constantly does this. Like at this very moment I am receiving 'excellent' signal strength according to my wireless utility, but I can not connect to the wireless network. I have talked to my systems department but they have no answer as to why I can not connect. According to them all my settings are correct for our office network.

Maybe I'm off base here, but if I can see it, shouldn't I be able to connect to it?

That's not the problem...

My sister in-law was having the same problem in my house with her laptop and her desktop trying to connect to my network. If you're using an add-on wireless card or adapter, try entering the hex value for the key, instead of entering the passphrase. While you will have a space to enter the passphrase and the key's hex value, only enter the hex value (it's a long number) and then save it and it should let you connect. You might have to restart your machine and once it reboots, let it reboot completely so that all services are running, etc. and it should connect.
