I can not remember my password to get on my wind. I ow vista

I have been trying for over a week . I have dowqnloaded tons of different programs that say they unlock, retrieve, or hack the password. But not one of them worked or i or at the last step it wpuld stop me and say i needed to go buy the password conformation code.
Where can I find a totally free downloadable password reset program or complete and precise directions on how to change or get past the password

Our common recommendation is to download ntpasswd from http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/, which is a command line tool to do it. A comparable tool is included in the very nice partedmagic toolbox from http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=start

A variant using a GUI is described in http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/gr/pcloginnow.htm
