Question

I can browse network drive and see the folders but cant map

Jan 15, 2014 8:11AM PST

Hi have a wrkstn on a network with about 20+ computers and 2 servers. everything hase been working fine for about 2 years. I had 2 drives on my backoffice computer mapped and 2 days ago I tried to access them and it says it could not connect to the network drive. I tried remapping and it says path could not be found. I tried mapping via cmd(net use etc...) and says error 67 network path not found. I noticed the netlogon service was disabled. I renabled it but still the same issue. my software wont work unless the drives is mapped. all others computers can successfully map nad browse. any tips are appreciated thanks. Windows xp service pak3. I also disabled firwall and antivures and same issue Sad

Answer
Given the business story.

Why not restore from your last good working backups?

There are limits to network shares but I didn't find enough detail to write more about that. But given the business nature of the post I would get IT to restore this machine from it's last image backup.

PS. In short.

Did you go to said "server" and log in with your name and password you use on your CLIENT PC? It's a common issue so I'll keep all replies terse, short as you work with your business IT on this.

Update
Jan 15, 2014 3:08PM PST

Wish i had back ups..ha worst comes to worse i can reload the OS, but would really like to know why it happened and if it can be fixed. I cant login with the clients pc onto the server, its not a domain server its a workgroup. i can browse all other workgroup computers on my network even the server. just wont let me map the path to any of the folders on any of the servers or workgroup computers. Says path could not be found when i can clearly browse to them. Im disconnecting and reconnecting all Ethernet cables from the switches and routers and modem and reconnecting them and powering off all the network devices and powering them on via modem first, etc. in hopes of some connectivity issue/flushing dns and stuff. ill touch base again tomorrow.
thanks for the tips!

The clue is that login.

If I can't login on the server (I really mean ON THE SERVER using the keyboard plugged into the server) using that account and password then I fix that.

It's an old problem so like the game of cold to hot, you're getting toasty.
