General discussion

" I believe that the judiciary is the focus of Evil in our

society today." said Alan Keyes at a conference entitled "Confronting the Judicial War on Faith"

So, having defeated the "Evil Empire" and the "Axis of Evil" apparently America wishes to devour its own judicial system having mistaken it for an external source of trouble. Apparently the GOP has adopted the auto-immune disease model of government; react against and try to destroy vital elements of your own body, in this case the body politic.

"I'm a radical! I'm a real extremist. I don't want to impeach judges. I want to impale them!" said the chief of staff of Oklahoma's GOP Senator Tom Coburn as quoted by http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20050425&s=blumenthal

Well at least he admits he's a radical which is more than his Republican brethren do. They all maintain they're moderates, and middle of the road, all evidence and appearance to the contrary.

Isn't

The AG ...

... doesn't "work for the President", he serves at his appointment/pleasure. Unlike some Presidents before him, Bush has not resorted to directing his AG to initiate politically motivated investigations. It shouldn't be the President that orders the AG to investigate certain crimes. *Sigh* backatcha.

Jeez Rob, Another whine fest???
Apr 13, 2005 2:42AM PDT

Since you live in Canada why do you care???
Not like anything here effects you all that much!

Just reporting the facts as I see 'em.
Apr 13, 2005 8:47AM PDT

I care because it was my home for most of my life, and because however much I may be a "citizen" of Canada, I'm still an American first, last, and always. As I mentioned before, I see the world through American eyes, and when things go wrong I feel embarassed for my country. That feeling isn't nearly as intense with Canadian mistakes and actions. That's why in the face of intense criticism here at SE I maintain that I am an American because that's how it feels inside me.

There's a difference between whining and complaining, I am trying to do the latter.

The whine fest is on the right, Glenda.
Apr 13, 2005 1:34PM PDT

Delay, Cornyn and co are now trying to dismantle the inependent judiciary at the heart of our system of checks and balances. The biggest whine fest I've ever seen was that all-night Congressional session with the Republicans whining about the Dems blocking less than 10% of Bush's nomin ees as they'd blocked of Clinton's!

Even Cheney has distanced himself from Delay's whinefest about the Federal judges!

It is called "checks and balances" and our forefathers

Where in the constitution

Oh, wait. It's just hyperbole.

Read a little more Gearup. Because the founding fathers
Apr 14, 2005 8:38AM PDT

feared the strength of an unfettered Administration they isolated it from the Legislative and Judicial branches so that both those branches could check and balance its actions. The Judiciary is independent of the Administration and the Legislature by design, and what the Republicans are campaigning for is to make the Judiciary subservient to the Administration's view of law, and social issues. This is explicitly forbidden in the Constitution.
