I have a dell E310 media center edition pc.I had a problem and lost some stuff from my pc.I put 2gig's of memory in,a new video card from nvida.I downloaded a program called Super@,it's a video converting tool.Well some how the easy media creator 7 got corrupted.I really liked that software.I did not get a disk for it from dell and my warranty is run out now.I did make a copy of all the folders and everything on a cd.I backed up all most my whole pc to cds and dvds. But I am finding out that you can't load them back like that or can you?Don't it have to have a installer file with it?Does anyone know what to do.Is there a way to load it back on from that copy I made? I have tried system restore,no luck.I do not want to revert back to when it came from the factory, thats what dell said. Thanks to anyone who responds!

To Reload Easy Media Creator 7...

...you'll need one of a few different things..

1. A full Roxio Easy Media Center CD to reinsall it.

2. The Dell Recovery Disc that came with your computer which allows you to reinstall the operating system and all software as it came from the factory. Some such Recovery Discs allow you to do a "Repair" installation which installs "over the top" of the old files and "might" not damage saved files and documents.. Unfortunately, not all of them offer the "non-destructive" option though.. Many Recovery Discs only perform a "Destructive" reinstall which formats, wipes the drive, then reinstalls everything. You'd have to explore the discs to find out.

3. A "Ghost" image of the drive created through a variety of different software programs.

A simple backup of files and folders won't allow you to reinstall most complex programs.. It doesn't work that way.

Hope this helps.

How did you do the backup?
Jul 2, 2007 10:17AM PDT

If you used some third party backup utility, they usually compress them or in some way alter them for backup, and you must use that utility to restore them.

When I back up my "stuff" I just copy the files and folders to a DVD. I don't believe in the backup utilities.

Let us know what you used.

I did not use a backup program,I did how ever copy all the folders just like they are on my hard drive and sent them to my burner drive.I loaded it in and it started to load itself but it stopped,I pulled up the properties from windows explorer( from the burner drive)and they read just like if they were on my pc.I don't know
