I aquired a laptop at auction vista os, password protected.

Is there anyway i can use this computer, it's in great shape. A Toshiba inspiron.

Toshiba never made an inspiron.

To reset a password you have to know if this is a Windows password or a BIOS password.

For Windows, just install your own Windows or Linux. For BIOS, it varies with the machine.
Since there was never a Toshiba Inspiron, can't start working on that.

For XP, resetting passwords is a snap.

NTPASSWD is about a 5 minute task to reset passwords. Google has tutorials and more so I'll pause here.

As to the BIOS password, you may have to get Toshiba to reset that.

there's a quite good chance the default administrator password is blank.

In checking in bios for password, it is a windows password but also found that the XP os has been upgraded to Vista. Thanks for any help.
