It would be helpful to have some more info:

- Computer Make and Model, and any upgrades made to it
- Operating System (windows xp, vista, mac, linux, etc) and the last time you installed it
- If using windows, do you still have a taskbar showing and can you open anything with it?
- Have you tried shutting down and booting back up?
- What happens when you try to open the icons? Blank window? Or just nothing at all?

In addition to what is stated above, do you have an active cursor?

If you're using Windows XP and you can't open programs go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 (left column) and click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it or right click it and choose "merge" and answer yes to the import prompt.

If you can't run the file do the following:

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.exe and press Enter. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that reg file fix, hilite it and click Open.

Note: If you can't access the Internet with the problem computer use another computer to download the reg file fix onto a CD, thumb drive, or floppy and transfer the file to the problem computer.

After that .reg file is merged into the registry successfully restart your computer.

Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem

Biff205,I saw your post on the Desktops forum that you're using Windows Vista so follow these instructions.

Go to the link below and download the lnk File association fix. To fix the association for a particular file type, download the corresponding fix from the above links table (Use Right-click - Save as option in your browser to download the fixes). Unzip the fix and extract the .REG file to the Desktop. Right-click the REG file and choose Merge. Note that you need to be an administrator to apply these fixes.

The lnk file association fix should fix your shortcut problem.
