General discussion

I am really starting to like this whole windows live thing..

Jun 15, 2006 8:25PM PDT

I know there are a ton of other sites that do the same thing that live is doing, and microsoft is basically playing catchup, but almost every week they are adding new feature or changing the look... and so far i really like it. mostly because of how clean and simple it is, but yet very feature packed. (still want messenger or other IM client capabilities built in... but i guess its coming)

dunno, i usually dont give props to MS, but i am liking this....

For me the issue isn't really the product but rather the company. The issue is trust. I ask myself, do I really want all my stuff on Microsoft's server? Can I trust Microsoft knowing their long past? The answer is definitive no. To me, it isn't about their feature set or usability. Even if Microsoft does eventually catch up to Google and surpass them it doesn't really matter to me because I simply don't trust them with my data.

The recent discovery of Windows Genuine Advantage phoning home daily is just yet another item on Microsoft's very long list of things they've done to errode public's trust. In fact the existence of WGA as well as Window's authentication process itself is clear sign that they don't trust their customers. If a company doesn't trust their customers, why should a customer trust the company?

Best feature in Windows Live Messenger
Jun 16, 2006 12:33AM PDT

For me, it has been the Sharing Folders. It's a Peer to Peer application within MSN Messenger, the only drawback is that you can only use it with one person at a time (you can't share the same folder with multiple people, every contact you choose gets their own sharing folder).
It is great for reviewing documents and stuff.
Another feature I Like are offline messages (like ICQ in 1997 Silly), the only problem is that you must have a Hotmail account tied to Messenger (which I neither have nor want)

The other problem with hotmail . . . .

is that you can't forward it to anything else (easily). I mean, I've also got a yahoo mail account (my ISP is Rogers here in Canada, partnered with Yahoo), but that is able to be forwarded to my Gmail account. But my Windows Live Mail account, which has ads that take up way too much screen real estate on my 1200 x 800 15.4" widescreen, forces me to either deal with a third party app which still requires input to forward everything, or check it every few weeks to figure out what is spam and what I might actually want to read. That's a little frustrating.
