This can only happen when you are on line and the computer is on.
To block intrusions, get a firewall. Zone Alarm is about as good as it gets. There is a free version that I use, do a Google Search for it.
Install it and it will block any attempt to access your computer. After it's installed it will ask for your permission to access the Internet, and whenever ANY program tries to access the net you will be prompted (if you don't recognize the program, tell it no). It will give you an alert whenever any outside program tries to access your machine. I have mine set to block these attempts silently.

i am pretty sure through direct connect or some other form of instant messanger conversation that i have been invaded by a nosey hacker. how can i tell and how do i stop it if the person is messing with my computer? i have dial up but i do have virus protection and adaware which i am told is good for spyware. if i am being hacked however iwant to get whatever software has been installed, off! thanks for anyone who takes the time to help me out.
