I am need of a way to dub/copy a MASSIVE VHS collection.....

May 14, 2008 3:32AM PDT

Hello everybody!!!

I am in *dire* need of copying/dubbing a HUGE amount of old non-copy-righted VHS tapes to DVD via a High-Speed method, not just merely a copying method done on a standard speed.

I would prefer a standalone unit, however, I am willing to get the necessary hardware for my PC to be able to hook it up to my TV and burn them to my high-speed DVD Burner that I have hooked up to my PC, if needs be.

I am running:

Windows XP Home Edition SP3
704Megs RAM
186G HDD
1.5G Hz processor

So, if a standalone is possible, all the better, if not, what all do I need to do the TV to PC hookup?

Thanks!!!

If you are concerned about speed...

... you could get a stand alone unit and just let it go while you work, sleep, etc. Otherwise, if you dump the videos to your hard drive on a PC you have storage issues (albeit temporary) and editing time to consider so a big job may turn into a lot of time wasted.

When I have to do a similar job you describe for my church, I just estimate the time, start recording on a standalone combo deck, set a stopwatch, then go do whatever until my watch reminds me to go push "stop" or whatever.

This does not solve the "high speed method" you request. I don't know of a system that does that. To get the high speed time sync'd up to record for normal playback later would ber VERY hard...

DVD Recording

Thanks for the input, the way it is right now, is I put a VHS tape that I wan to copy into my player, then I put a blank DVD into the deck and hit copy, alas, since ALL my tapes are FULL, I can only get about 2 tapes done a day as when it copies it will pop out when it is done and it *does* take some time....

Thanks again.

You have a high speed dvd burner;

Is this something specially built that an average home computer don't have?

The fastest that I know, one hour tape takes one hour recording time on a standalone dvd recorder. What do you have in mind?

High-speed recordings

Hello.

Not really, I was just kinda of hoping that there *might* be a machine out there that has a high-speed mode, i., e., 2x, 5x, 16x, etc. that would allow me to quickly dub a non-protected VHS tape onto a DVD blank disc, but, I have come to realize that, there appears to be no such thing... )-:

This is just the way it is, get a DVD recorder/VHS comb unit and go. John

TV to PC hookup

you need a capture card for your computer, there are many to choose from. Most are TV digital/anolouge combination with SVHS input, and usually supplied with conversion leads to RCA.
This will still entail hour for hour recording.
Unfortunatly I doubt there are any high speed solutions for you, there may be some for profesional use, but I suspect the price of such would cost as much as a new car.
Any profesional dubbing service would also cost a fortune.
