Probably have conflict with Earthlink software
Aug 18, 2005 5:13AM PDT

I had this same problem, and saw the info here that talked about some kind of adware or browser hijack that might have caused this problem. I wasted about 2 hours trying to clean my computer, only to find I didn't have adware, nor any other problems.

I did some further searching online and found that certain versions of Earthlink's software causes AIM to crash when trying to launch a IM window.

You can read more on the AIM site here:

http://www.aim.com/help_faq/report.adp?aolp=

(Look at 10/08/2004 and 08/31/2004)

Oddly enough, they put this in the "Report a Problem" section, but not in the "Error Messages" section.

So, either update your Earthlink software or download and install the latest version. I did this and it fixed my problem.
