I agree! All the Blue LEDs are getting annoying

May 16, 2007 7:55AM PDT

The penchants most manufacturers seem to have with blue LEDs is way out of hand. Its one thing to have the cool tech geek glow of lights and less obnoxious LEDs on gadgets (like those typically found on level meters/equalizers or those which light up a semi-opaque plastic cover, so as to be more diffuse and pleasing).

The insanely bright and in your face blue LEDs are nothing but an eyesore IMHO. There is one on my studio microphone, and I have to cover it up its so bright and distracting, its as bright as a flashlight, and would blind me (just like a flash bulb) when I look down at my notes.

LEDs and lights are cool!

Super Bright, 'Look Ma, I'm simulating a blue supernova'.....not so much.

LED as a form of lighting...
May 16, 2007 8:43AM PDT

... has worked best in car dashboards. Audi's use of red is really very good, as is the Lexus use of white LEDs. Indicator LEDs which are just there for 'look! pretty!' appeal are garish.

Ambient Light Sensors!
May 16, 2007 9:32AM PDT

My iMac and my bluetooth headphones both have shining lights on them, and are equipped with an "Ambient light sensor" which sense the amount of light around and dims its own lights accordingly.

Just to note, even though my Mac's light (I don't believe) is LED-- one night the Mac was awoken and then sent back to sleep (due to a light switch turned on), and the ALS didnt function. When the light glowed bright, it was painful and I had to wake it up and set it to sleep again. That pain is real..

Blue LEDs are illegal, but White and Red LEDs used are ok
Jun 8, 2010 4:17PM PDT

Automobile LED lighting is the new trend that more and more automakers have adapted this new technology.

There is also a huge aftermarket business for automobile LED accessories such as LED license plate lights to mimic the Lexus's LED license plate lights, the LED daytime running lights, similar to Audi or Mercedes's stock LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights.

I am sure in the short future, there will be LED headlights everywhere like the aftermarket HID conversion kit nowaday.

Blue causes the most eye strain, red the least...
Jun 10, 2010 1:24PM PDT

well technically white then violet, but...

ROYGBIV remember?

Red has the longest wavelength and is therefore easiest on the eyes which is why (i assume) many car manufacturers go with that in the dash, but as you all mentioned the rise of blue is apparent, i think that is due to ppl getting tired of the red... i know personally, i luuuv the blue dash in volkswagens but for the record, it causes more eye strain...
