Question

Hulu not loading on LG Smart TV

Hulu has all of a sudden stopped working on my 1 year old smart TV. It gets stuck on the loading screen - all other streaming and apps work fine. Hulu and LG tech support were no help. Hoping someone has a magic solution. Thanks!

Solution?

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? Mine started doing the exact same thing about 2 days ago and I have done everything to try and fix it including the updates restoring the TV to initial settings making sure the time is correct and all of that jazz but still nothing

The usual

When I ask a set of questions about items and no reply it usually means it started working. I've seen the issue before, cured it too many times to count with the items I asked about.

With Net Neutrality not enforced now, I bet a lot more of this will happen.

I've done it all

That sucks, they could at least write back and let everyone know what got it working. In my case I have the exact same TV this poster has and it's doing the same thing. Only Hulu gets Stuck on loading screen but everything else works and loads fine, I have only had this TV one year. I tried all the steps you mentioned, TV is up to date, I have reset to factory settings 3 times, tv and modem/router date & time are exact. only thing I'm effy about is the changed DNS thing. I went to the internet settings for my wired connection and manually changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and when that didn't work I changed it back to when it originally was. What else can I do??

"That sucks, they could at least write back and let everyone know what got it working. "

...that seems to be a general happening in the forums. Feedback is always appreciated, as you note, it helps others who come on a thread with same problem. We always appreciate those who do give the feedback.

We all wish they'd spill the beans.

But one last thing. Be sure to try it wired and check again the date/time and DNS change.

Some models require us to change countries to some country that doesn't have Hulu and then change back to force an app reload. Sometimes a factory reset is required. On Samsung I've had models that DEMAND a call to Samsung for them to do a "remote reset" but they don't tell us what they did so you're stuck calling them to work the issue.

I can't figure it out

Thanks for replying back. I've always used my LG Smart TV with a wired connection but when this started happening I also tried loading Hulu while connected to WiFi and I even connected my phone internet to the TV via tethering and it still gets stuck on the hulu loading screen. What's strange is now sometimes when I click on Hulu the TV itself gets stuck trying to load the Hulu app and then I'll get a message saying that the service isn't available and to try again later. But then If i try it again right after that, it'll load Hulu right but then goes back to what it's been doing which is getting stuck on the hulu loading screen.

I don't have notes for LG models.

Let's recap. You already tried the DNS, reset, checked time on the TV so that leaves us with product defects.

The next call is to LG to claim it's in warranty and let them deal with it. Samsung has had to replace main boards at times when resets and such fail.

This sucks

Yeah it looks like I'm just gonna have to call them again. It's just so strange that it randomly stopped loading and working just out of the blue, weird. Anyway, thanks for the information and trying to help, it's very much appreciated!

If you can, if you find the fix.

Share it so others will know what others did.

Last Firmware Update

I find it troubling that getting a straight answer from LG about when they plan on updating the firmware is disturbing. It's no wonder the Hulu app stopped working.

Still not working.

As of 1/16/18 still no fix. When this first started happening back in December the Hulu app on my LG TV hadn't had a update since 2016 then at the end of December there was a update for it. I got really excited and really thought that this would fix the issue. I updated it but it still gets stuck on the loading screen then about a week later they updated the Hulu app again but it still didn't fix my problem . I resorted to buying a fire stick TV from Amazon so I can watch Hulu on my TV which I am having problems with now to as it is overheating after only watching it for 15 minutes and the thing is supposedly brand new. It's really frustrating and very inconvenient this Hulu LG TV thing. Sad

For Soldier505 re OVERHEATING.

Amazon has been super supportive on all the gear I've bought from them. You didn't supply which TV but I can imagine if you had an early PLASMA set (folk are piling into this thread about some other model) that I've seen really pour out the heat that you might have to put the stick on a short HDMI cable so it was away from the PLASMA furnace.

If it's not that, then call Amazon for a swap or such.

Hulu & LG TV's

Hulu has confirmed that LG TVs made in 2014 and earlier will no longer be supported. This news comes as Hulu earlier this year announced that they are ending support for some DVD players and Blu-ray players will be losing Hulu support.

Hulu on LG

Hulu won’t load through the LG Hulu app but works fine through a Roku. Don’t think this is a Hulu problem, rather a LG problem.

LG doesn't write the code.

It's Hulu's own staff that does that. If there aren't enough paying customers for a platform, Hulu will pull the plug.

My 2015 LG now will not work on Hulu

Judging from the recent posts I had to look at the manufacturing date on my LG 50LF6100 made in November 2015. It suddenly stopped playing Hulu in the middle of a show and nothing we tried worked. Wondering if a platform gets to be 4 years old it's considered obsolete? I guess we'll just stop paying for Hulu if they don't want our money.

That's one way to look at it.

Cars are the same way. After so many years your dealer won't fix your car.

Anyhow, the story is told many times and folk unfortunately tend to play the entitled card. No offense but even since the Smart TV arrived many of us have warned folk about long term issues.

And why a Roku stick beats a Smart TV every time.

Hulu not working on Smart TV

Hulu rep told me that....I see, that error message is definitely an issue with device deprecation that it can longer supported as I checked here " LG devices (TVs/BRPs) running Web OS 2.0 and below " can longer support Hulu and it seems that your device model runs the Web OS version 2.0.

Answer
OK. The usual. Did they do all this?

1. I see the firmware was updated 11/08/2016. It's at http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-55LH575A
2. After the update and to troubleshoot these TVs are subjected to a factory reset so it is put to it's out of the box condition. Did they walk you through this step?

3.The date and time of both TV and router are checked to match local time.

4. The DNS in the TV is changed to 8.8.8.8 since ISP DNS issue abound.

Finally we are going to see more of this as ISPs experiment with "traffic shaping." Without Net Neutrality you can't be sure the ISP isn't tinkering with the traffic. ISPs are currently not supposed to but I've lost count where they were "testing."

Steps I’ve taken

I’ve reset to factory a few times. LG had me change my location to Canada & then back to make sure I had the correct app version. They also verified I was running the most current firmware version.

This is the only app that’s not working...everything else is fine. And I’m able to access Hulu on my other TV and devices. It didn’t give me any trouble until we had an internet outage a couple nights ago. And now it’s just stuck.

- Collapse -
So no check of firmware, DNS and time on router and TV?

Sounds like there are more things to check.

Same Problem

I’m having trouble with mines as well. I even uninstalled and left it off for a day and came back and reinstalled it. It didn’t work. I called Hulu and they told me it’s something with all the LG tvs. I don’t know what to do about it. I feel like calling LG as well just to see and find out a solution to this problem. They need to do something about this immediately. Such a big inconvenience for all of us.

Problem solved

Hulu suddenly disappeared on my lg tv , I could not find the app at all. I looked up the troubleshooting from LG and my tv was acting up due to the location and time zone. It said Canada instead of USA. Before you reset the tv, try changing the location by going to 1.settings 2.general 3.location 4. Your tv will turn off and turn back on and you should be able to see the Hulu app

Try'd that.

That didn't help me with my LG TV. Time and everything is fine and exact.
