Huge window vista problem driving me nut

Jul 22, 2010 12:58PM PDT

Okay about 2 weeks ago i built a new rig.
Asus Mobo
Amd 3.0 Dual Core
2 gb patroit ram
Gt 240 512ddr5 video card
oem 500 gb hd
oem Dvd burner
650 wat power supply

Okay so i put the computer together. Boots on the first try. I install windows xp pack 2. Get everything going and windows starts i install of the drivers. Everything is working perfectly. Now this cpu i have connect to a 40 in lcd. I use it manly for games and watching movies and show. Then all of a sudden bam it freezes up and is make this horrible noise from the speakers. Ummm so i try to bring up task manager cant so i hit the reset button and it reloads and is working perfectly again. Well lets just say this starts repeating more and more. So i am like something is wrong with the software so i load in the xp disk and reformat and reinstall everything runs great and them bam starts freezing up on me and i like ok. So i am thinking it was getting hot so i install all of amd utilities and start watching the temps never did they get hot. So i pop in a windows vista ultamite dvd and reformat and install vista. So i install have the drivers and again its starts freezing. So i begun looking online and ran across a thread that said something about ram so i take a alook at my motherboard book and i didnt know that i have 2 channels 2 a channel slots and 2 b channel slots and i have on stick in each so i was like that probly the problem. So i turn off my computer and put them both into channel a. Restart and now windows will not load freezes with the progress bar. Try to start it in safe mode gets to main green screen and screen goes blank. So i pop in the dvd restart it brings up the windows loading files progress bar loads files then says starting windows and just freezes. And same with the xp disk to. I have tried everything even thought to dl dos boot into dos and format that way but that doesnt allow me to do it. I am new here and i am pulling what little hair i have left out. Please any help would be Grateful. Matt

Asus MOBO model = ?

2 gb patroit ram : speed ? comptible with the MOBO ?

Amd 3.0 Dual Core : compatible with MOBO ?

This is not a Vista problem, more of hardware. Suggest a post there.

Sounds like a hardware issue.

Ask the machine's maker or parts supplier what they want to do next.

It is 2 1024 mb ddr 3 1333hz ram. Mobo is asus m4a785t-m And the chip is AMD Athlon II X2 250 Dual Core Processor. According to the mobo user guide everything is compatable.

That's good

Then it must be a bum part or parts in the lot. However I've lost count of memory issues. Imagine the answer when you ask folk that built the machine to check memory timing. I know it's asking a lot but when we build it ourselves we get to go deep.

So it might just be a ram issue. Is there anyway to check memory timing?

Memory timing in a nutshell.

I have to find the documentation on the memory then I look at each setting in the BIOS then each equivalent in the documentation. It's a shame that we can't count on this to work on its own.

Often a newer BIOS helps as more memory timing tables are included.

But all the above points to some hard issue. Hope the machine's maker or supplier will set it right.

You can try google... no need to duplicate things here and take the fun out of "computers-ing" Happy
