Question

HU9000 with 2.1 sound system

Jan 19, 2015 11:57AM PST

I used a Klipch 2.1 sound system with my old Sony. The TV could be configured to shut off the TV speakers and have the TV volume control set the volume on the 2.1 speakers.

This does not seem to be possible on the HU9000. The audio out jack has a fixed output not controlled by the TV volume so I must adjust the 2.1 system volume manually by turning a knob on one of the speakers. This is unacceptable as I want to use the TV remote for volume control and mute.

Perhaps a software update can fix this problem if Samsung can do that. I'd rather not have to buy a soundbar.
Any other solutions?? Thanks for your help.

Possible Solution

I have come up with a work-around that I think might work.

Get an inexpensive home theater receiver or amplifier with a remote and a phono jack. Plug the Samsung audio out into the receiver audio input. Plug the 2.1 sound system into the phono jack. I assume that the phono jack output can be controlled remotely by the receiver volume control, as it can by the volume knob on the receiver.

Use a TV cable remote with an AUX input. Program that remote for the theater receiver. My FIOS remote can be programmed for the volume to be controlled by the AUX device no matter which input device is selected on the remote. Set the remote for the set-top box and we should be good to go.

Any reasons why this might not work?
