HTWS1R wont leave PCM mode

by adamthelakerfan / December 3, 2009 11:08 AM PST

Just purchased this unit after reading reviews was a bit skeptical, but I like the looks and anything is better than the TV (Samsung LN55B650) itself. Thankfully, I have not had the subwoofer problems noted in other reviews, but I cannot get the system out of PCM. Had the optical cable plugged into TV and it sounds good. Then I switched the optical cable to my DirecTV HD boxes optical cable and it remains in PCM (and the sound quality is worse than when it was direct to the TV). Any advice, or is PCM my only option? I also have a Playstation 3 to work with. HELP!!

adamthelakerfan,

The PCM indicator, like Dolby or DTS, is letting you know which signal is coming in. So that's the source signal. If you have a Dolby signal available from the TV or the source, you can change that at the source, and then that indicator will change accordingly.

Dolby or DTS on DirecTV HD receiver

So what you are saying is the source, in this case the DirecTV receiver, needs to be switched to Dolby or DTS for the soundbar to recognize, correct?

adamthelakerfan,

Correct. Not only that, but the television should should also be broadcast in Dolby or DTS. Not all shows on all channels do. But if it is, it should be picked up by the soundbar.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
