500 errors in the HTTP cycle
Any client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) goes through the following cycle when it communicates with your Web server:
1. Obtain an IP address from the IP name of your site (your site URL without the leading 'http://'). This lookup (conversion of IP name to IP address) is provided by domain name servers (DNSs).
2. Open an IP socket connection to that IP address.
3. Write an HTTP data stream through that socket.
4. Receive an HTTP data stream back from your Web server in response. This data stream contains status codes whose values are determined by the HTTP protocol. Parse this data stream for status codes and other useful information.
This error occurs in the final step above when the client receives an HTTP status code that it recognises as '500'.
Resolving 500 errors - general
This error can only be resolved by fixes to the Web server software. It is not a client-side problem. It is up to the operators of your Web server site to locate and analyse the logs which should give further information about the error.
One thing that YOU might do is to Click Tools > Click Internet Options > Click Advanced Tab > Under Browsing uncheck the "Show Friendly HTTP Errors" checkbox.
Then refresh the page. You may then see a more detailed error message (or you may not). This assumes you are using a current browser because older, outdated browsers are more prone to the problem.
In short, contact the site you are having the problem with.
First of all I want to thank you for helping me run scan disk & defrag. All is well there.
I'm still getting errors trying to reach a few web pages. I have a Dell using windows ME with internet explorer and have Spybot installed. I haven't found anything out on Spybot to help me correct the issue which occurred only after installing it. Not that I NEED to shop, but www.kohls.com doesn't work for me any more.
