HTML/Plain Text

Jan 13, 2005 9:18AM PST

An e-mail recipient has requested sending in "Plain Text" and not in "HTML" as using HTML will result in him not receiving the message.
Currently my option is set for sending in HTML. Does this mean some recipients will, in fact, not be recipients?
On the other hand if I change the option to "Plain Text" will I not be able to get messages to others?
Is there an option that will work in all cases?
Maybe a short explanation of the differences would help.
BTW, I tried to "search" this problem and came away confused.

DC, Text IS The Safest...

...but the mail will be sent no matter what...Unfortunately, on those machines where they choose to ONLY view TEXT,(later versions of Outlook and Outlook Express can be configured this way) they might only receive an attachment with the HTML text inside or if they prepared a rule which blocks HTML, then the mail will be deleted before it arrives..Personally, I format almost all mail messages as text when sending.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Grif. Do We Have A Record Here?

I posted my question, made a quick visit to another site, came back here and there is an answer. Six minutes from my post to your answer. Wow! Is there any question why this is such a popular forum?
I have changed my e-mail send option to "Text".

Opting to send as text only...

is generally a better choice but can foul things up if you happen to try to send a carefully formatted document but not as an attachment for whatever reason.

If you prefer to send to most in html and to select persons in text only, this can normally be done by so noting in a little checkbox indicating TEXT ONLY for the recipient in your address book.

I do not see myself sending anything but simple messages so I will stay with text only. If I were to send anything very elaborate I would probably send it as an attachment in view of what you and Grif have pointed out.
