Question

HTC 10 Verizon - scroll stutter?

Mar 25, 2017 5:34PM PDT

Can someone explain this? Every one I've demoed at the store has scroll jitter/stutter/lag in various apps (especially Google Chrome, the Google Play store, and Google Maps).

The Pixel doesn't stutter like this (neither does the LG G5), but I thought they had basically the same processors.

Answer
It's more than the processor.

There are also graphics processors and a mountain of code to make it all work (or not.)

I think you are doing the right thing to work the demos before buying.

Then what is it exactly?

There's graphics processors and a mountain of code to make all phones work; what are you saying is different exactly?

I can try all the phones and have to pick the one that's best for me, but it has to work on Verizon, and this thread specifically is about why there is so much trouble with the Verizon HTC 10.

Yes, I've already gone through all the normal recommendations of clearing cache and data and factory resetting etc; I need to know if there is a setting in normal settings or developer settings for minimizing the scrolling stutter that will not be an excessive drain on the battery. Otherwise I would just like to know why exactly there is so much stutter on only the Verizon version of the HTC 10.

I didn't exactly say (or write!)

I have to disagree that a lack in smooth scrolling is a big deal. It sounds like it worked at the end of the day. You may not have been around the early days of Windows. All machines were pretty hinky at times.

I'm guessing you want me to dissect what's off with this phone but that's for the maker and seller. You already know this isn't for you so move to other models and forget about this.

I know you didn't say exactly, that's why I asked

So you'd be OK with a low-end phone that pauses and stutters and jitters and lags when you scroll? OK, enjoy that phone.

I was around for Windows 95, and it worked fine.

The non-Verizon HTC 10's don't lag like this. I'm here to find any other users who've experienced this or can offer any useful fix.

This phone is for me; I like the hardware design and HTC's custom features. Verizon is causing a software issue, I've already posted on their boards, and they just say it's HTC's customization while later saying it may have been Verizon's request.

Again, I'm looking for any other users who are experiencing this or any useful fixes that don't involve clearing cache and data or wiping the phone or any of the usual fixes, as this happens on a fresh clean open-box item and after factory reset and cache wipe etc.

I'm hoping the Nougat update fixes the issue, or there is a feasible root/ROM method which I'm unsure of. Please don't reply R. Proffitt unless you have something useful to add, not just dead-end opinions or incorrect assertions.

If it was a low end phone, yes.

In fact I use those 20 buck Android phones for GPS trackers. They fit the bill.

I fear I've upset you here by not taking on the role of maker and seller. Good luck in finding the answers.

So are you agreeing with me or contradicting yourself?

You: "I have to disagree that a lack in smooth scrolling is a big deal."

Me: "So you'd be OK with a low-end phone that pauses and stutters and jitters and lags when you scroll?"

You: "If it was a low end phone, yes."

The HTC 10 is not a low-end phone, so you're either agreeing with me that it is a big deal, or you think it's a low-end phone. Which is it? Again, the non-Verizon versions don't have these issues, and they have the same processor and other hardware.

I clarified why I think it's OK.

If it matters to you, do not buy what you don't like. For me, I can be forgiving if the price is right.

So you're saying the HTC 10 is a low-end phone?
Apr 5, 2017 7:10AM PDT

Your "clarification" of why you think scroll lag is OK is that you'd be OK if it were a low-end phone... but you said previously you don't think scroll lag is a big deal anyways, but the post is about scroll lag on the HTC 10, so you think it's a low-end phone?!

Your replies are nonsense and not helpful, you're just adding more problems.

I've already explained what I'm here for (and you've probably ruined the thread now), and that is to try to figure out what the deal is with the scroll stutter on the HTC 10 for Verizon, which you've offered ZERO helpful info for, just stating either that you don't care about scroll stutter or (seemingly unwittingly) implying that you think the HTC 10 is a low-end phone.

Please butt out and let someone who actually cares about the issue and/or the phone leave feedback, and stop denigrating people with issues here because you don't care about their issues.

Go ahead and leave your condescending reply, it won't be helpful but it might make you feel better.

condescending? Just conversation.

I'm sorry I offended you by kicking this subject around.

I hope you know to avoid models you find issues like this.
