The television's optical port doesn't pass a 5.1 audio signal, except for the tuner. So any surround sound inputs need to go directly into the optical inputs of the HT system.
I'm unsure if AC3 files are supported. The manual would point you to which formats are supported.
You might also check the audio settings on the television to output through the optical port.
Keep me posted.
I've got some new Samsung parts together for quite a decent home cinema experience:
- PS50B550 Plasma Display
- HT-BD1255 Home cinema system
Blu-Ray runs finde, superb picture and great 5.1 Sound.
Now I wanted to add a HTPC into my living room. I've got a AC3 compatible 5.1 soundcard with SPDIF Optical Out. So I bought an Optical cable and connected it to the HT-BD1255.
-> No 5.1 Sound with AC3 Files.
There's also nothing mentioned of 5.1 on the info display (as it is withe BD movies). What I can do is upmix the apparently Stereo Signal to a 5.1 surround mix via Dolby Pro Logic II (which works...in BD Mode this function won't work).
Now it could be a driver issue on the HTPC, BUT the same happens when I link the TV receiver together with the HT-BD1255 -> also optical. There some TV Programs output 5.1 Sound, and I don't get 5.1 on the display either.
Whats the correct way to install the Sound system? Did I overlook an option? I checked the whole manual and the menus....
Thanks for any Help,
