HT-BD1255 : Optical In -> DD 5.1 / Pro Logic?!

by heady85 / July 9, 2009 1:10 AM PDT

Hi all,

I've got some new Samsung parts together for quite a decent home cinema experience:

- PS50B550 Plasma Display
- HT-BD1255 Home cinema system

Blu-Ray runs finde, superb picture and great 5.1 Sound.

Now I wanted to add a HTPC into my living room. I've got a AC3 compatible 5.1 soundcard with SPDIF Optical Out. So I bought an Optical cable and connected it to the HT-BD1255.

-> No 5.1 Sound with AC3 Files. Sad

There's also nothing mentioned of 5.1 on the info display (as it is withe BD movies). What I can do is upmix the apparently Stereo Signal to a 5.1 surround mix via Dolby Pro Logic II (which works...in BD Mode this function won't work).

Now it could be a driver issue on the HTPC, BUT the same happens when I link the TV receiver together with the HT-BD1255 -> also optical. There some TV Programs output 5.1 Sound, and I don't get 5.1 on the display either.

Whats the correct way to install the Sound system? Did I overlook an option? I checked the whole manual and the menus....

Thanks for any Help,

Heady

HT-BD1255 : Optical In -> DD 5.1 / Pro Logic?!

heady85,

The television's optical port doesn't pass a 5.1 audio signal, except for the tuner. So any surround sound inputs need to go directly into the optical inputs of the HT system.

I'm unsure if AC3 files are supported. The manual would point you to which formats are supported.

You might also check the audio settings on the television to output through the optical port.

Keep me posted.

Hi, thanks for your answer!

It finally worked, but only with the programm AC3 Filter (SPDIF Output checked), which is the AC3 codec that for example Windows Media Player is using.

So now I got it working with Windows Media Player 11 and VLC Player, though WMP play is a bit choppy (only picture) but with better colors than the VLC Player.

Now when an AC3 signal comes from the HTPC to the Receiver I can't change anymore to Dolby Pro Logic 2 (music, movie, matrix, etc. <- those options).
