HT-BD1250 not playing DVDs

by Steblad / September 28, 2010 12:09 AM PDT

Initially, my HT-BD1250 would not display the menu screen of many DVDs and only the disc's audio could be heard. Despite the absence of the menu, some movies would play when the play button was pressed. In an attempt to correct this problem, firmware update BEv2.41 was successfully installed. Now, unit will not play DVDs...including those that previously played without any problems. Intermittently, the unit will exhibit various problems with the same DVD. Sometimes, audio can be heard but video signal cannot be located. Other times, a vivid pink screen appears. Still other times, there is no audio and blank screen indicating video signal cannot be located. After very thorough testing, there appears to be no pattern in which problem occurs. Blu-ray discs appear to play without problem. Any information and/or assistance in resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Steblad,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue.

If DVDs have been unable to play, even after a firmware update, the unit may require service.

You might try resetting the unit by removing any discs in the tray, powering it down and powering it back up and holding down the FF>> button. If discs still don't play, you might call 800-SAMSUNG and have the unit set up for service.

Powering down and restarting while depressing the FF button resolved most of the sporadic issues I was experiencing. No more pink screen or message that video source can't be located. However, I am still unable to see the menu screen on many DVDs (although the audio can be heard). Since most menus highlight "play movie" by default, depressing play/OK usually starts the movie. Blu-ray discs play without problem. Sorry for the delay in replying. Hope this helps.

Having the same problem....
by wfraser76 / January 22, 2011 10:35 AM PST

Steblad -

Did you ever find a solution to this? I've had the same problem with my BD1250 for about a year now. Samsung has had me send the unit in for repair three times, and has never fixed it; each time it came back to me, it still had the same problem. I recently tried contacting customer service again, but they no longer respond, so I've given up on hoping Samsung has any kind of fix for it (or even cares that I have this problem). I have the latest firmware installed, too.

In fact, whenever I chat with customer service online, the reps tell me they've never heard of the issue before, despite the fact that a Google search pulls up many examples of the issue.

It would be great to know if anyone has ever found a way to take care of this.

I have the same problem...

The customer service reps have been horrible. I have the same problem with my BD1250 as described above. Apparently, Samsung can't fix this problem even though they've known about it for years. Can anyone recommend another home theater system that's reliable and has good customer service? Samsung has neither.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
