hpzd8000 vs dell 9300 hmmm

Nov 11, 2005 10:54AM PST

well i havent bought any of these laptops yet but im going to and pretty soon. Just have to make a choice now. im not prejudiced agaisnt either computer companies.

i first considered getting the 9300... that is until of course i realized that a lot of them had faulty screens. some reviews claimed all of them others said it was (4/5) but the risk is way too high anyway, i dont want this to be a lottery, i also heard some ugly issues with the resolution. i really like the idea of a mobile chip and inceased battery life, lighter weight and yet... i lean towards the zd8000. to tell you the truth, i simply cant accept the idea of buying a laptop from a company who takes me for a fool and thinks that it can put in a screen with a light leak in it and get away with it. To all of those who claim that it is "very minor and is barely noticed" - i dont care, its a manufacturing problem, if they cant get THAT right, well then they wont have my business. this is USA not zimbabwefor pete's sake, i expect a product operate the way its supposed to. what is even more ridiculous is that the bad screen issues usually come with the more expensive display, so what are people really paying for ?

well lets look at the zd8000 now. Heavy? yes, short battery life? yeah that too... but i need the laptop mostly for gaming/dvds. it just offers so much for not that high a price. i figure if i can have all of that performance for just these negatives then so be it. ill probably buy another battery once i go to college and 2 should cut it for me. as for the heat, well if im going to be gaming then the laptop will have to be on a table anyway, id feel silly sitting with it on my lap and with a mouse on a couch. so i guess it wont be a problem for me. as for the weight issue, 9.3 pounds isnt all that much , i tried lifting a 10 lbs dumb bell and it seemed relatively light. i know it is a lot compared t other notebooks but i have never seen another notebook with such specs.

Well i also checked out the hp site.. and their customizing process is very easy. i think ill go with the hp.

im not considering getting a gateway, forget that, my friend go a gateway desktop recently and he cant even play wc3 tft cause it wont install. my 399 dollar dell desktop can do that. gateway has lost my trust.

get the inspiron 9300
Nov 11, 2005 1:11PM PST

those people are not true! They are just complaining because if you look really really carefully( like those people that are picky), you could probably find a white leak, there are no faulty screen with my order and if you get 2 years or more warrenty they can just replace it. The zd 8000 also doesn't have as good graphics and battery life and size. What you said about 10 lbs is sort of wrong because if you carry it for about 5 mins, you will feel the pain.

Inspiron 9300

Hello !

English is not my first language so please, fogive my mistakes ... Happy

Good. Personnaly, I choose the Inspiron 9300. Why ? Beacause Intel Pentium 4 are not suppose to be in a little case. Pentium 4 must have space and be aired. In a laptop, this is not possible. So, the Pentium 4 overheat and the other components of the laptop wear more quickly than the normal, which makes leave the wallet!

So, personnaly, I choose the Inspiron 9300. But, if I can mention the HP dv8000z, I think this last should be a better choice. Why ? Because he has a AMD Turion 64 so the HP is ready for the next Windows Vista. Then, you are ready for future applications with the x64 Bits technology. And Intel don't has this technology. Another thing that the HP has, it's you can change the memory ( if you like to have 1 GB of memory ). The Inspiron 9300 has 2x512 MB of memory, so I think you can't change it. The HP has 1GB ( 1x1024 GB ), so I think you can.

Well... It's my opinion ! Correct me please if I said something wrong ! I just have 13 years old !

Thanks !

your english is a lot better than how I'd speak whatever your language is! Just a tip...check the dates of the messages you're responding to as this was an old one, the thread has likely died out.

Keep posting though, we need helpful new members.

If the zd8000 isn't leaving a desk, then
Nov 11, 2005 2:39PM PST

it would be a good choice but if you do plan to carry it around then go with the dell. The HP has a better processor(desktop processor) but it isn't very portable or lap friendly.

You said you were a gamer, if so...

Why not look at the HP Dv4000? It has the ATI X700 with 128MB of dedicated memory... a much better GPU than on the zd8000. It's lighter, has a Pentium M chip and decent battery life. The 15.4 widescreen is very nice. I've got one with a Sonoma 740 and got a 3DMark05 score of 2439...not bad.

so?

the dell inspiron 9300 can be upgraded to the nvidia 6800 go which is hella better than x700.

the dv4000
Nov 12, 2005 3:17AM PST

im actually considering this laptop dv4000. however the review on cnet says it lacks dedicated video memory for high-end gaming. only 128 mb, and they only offer the 5400 rpm hard drive and not the 7200 one. the display is also only 15.1 inches instea of the zd8000's 17.1. the price is coming out to be almost the same as the zd8000. and it is only 1 pound or so lighter than the zd8000. i dont know if its worth it. how good is the 2.13 ghz processor ? and also how much battery life u guys get with gaming ?

HP just recently added the dedicated graphics card option to the dv4000 and cnet reviewed it before this addition.

zd8000
Nov 12, 2005 11:12AM PST

I just noticed that HP is now offering the 256MB version of the ATI X700 GPU for use in the zd8000 rather than just the x600 option. This would make it a better gaming system overall than the dv4000 which has the 128MB version of the x700 GPU. However, the Nvidia Geforce 6800 is still better. Anyway, if you are planning on keeping the laptop on the desk anyway why not just go ahead and get a desktop system. It would be cheaper and more for your money. I don't think I would ever want to get a Pentium 4 in a laptop version. Too hot and no battery life.

Wrong. The 256 chip is a X600...
Nov 12, 2005 9:56PM PST

The X600 uses dedicated and shared memory and is not nearly the GPU the X700 is (which does not have a 256 option). The X600 has 4 pipelines, the X700 has 8 pipelines... much, much better GPU.

doesnt matter
Nov 13, 2005 12:41AM PST

i checked out both laptops and i decided not to get either one of them. zd doesnt have enough battery life although it delivers impressive specs. the 9300 one doesnt have a full sized keyboard and has manufacturing problems regarding the screen. someone on this forum said that it isnt true, however i dont think that tens of people would claim the same thing for no reason. if your laptop has no problems you should be happy about it instead of claiming that all of the 9300's are fine.

I decided to get a laptop from alienware (Area-51

Alienware---------------THE BOTTOM LINE
Nov 13, 2005 11:41AM PST

you may want to buy your own tools for repair first.
if you research the notebook you will find that there are more unhappy then happy customers.there customer care as well as teck support falls more then short of getting you notebook back online when proublems arise

My bad, a typo in the circular I saw
Nov 13, 2005 3:32AM PST

I saw in a circular that HP sent out that listed the X700 as an option for the zd8000. I just looked at their website and it does say x600. Definitely if I was going to get a laptop right now it would be the dv4000.

i was considering it, and decided not to go with it, thx
Nov 15, 2005 10:47AM PST

yes i did the research, and i would have bought from them if they didnt try to rip me off. I made my final decision as to what im going to do. Im getting asus z71v base platform and building it myself. after im done i should have a great notebook with 2gb ram, 2.13 ghz processor, 80 gb 7200. the price will vary depending on what i order this weekend, but im expecting around 1700$. this price includes a router, wireless mouse and pretty mcuh everything else ill need. im building it myself, cause it isnt difficult and as i researched the notebook i found a do it yourself site which explains how to put in the missing components, its not as nearly difficult as i thought it shoudlnt take me more than 40 minutes tops. hers a link for you guys, check it out, tell me what you think.
