HPdv9000's HDMI

Mar 5, 2007 8:26PM PST

I'm about to buy my first laptop and everytime I research I am drawn to the HP dv9000. I've come up with these specs when customizing:

Windows Vista Ultimate
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam
2GB DDR2 System Memory
Hard Drive120GB 5400RPM
HD DVD ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
Expresscard TV Tuner for Windows Vista Notebook
High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

...so all in all its pretty much fully loaded. I understand they come standard with an HDMI port. Does anyone have experience using this HDMI to play HD-DVD's on their HDTV from the laptop. If so, to what results?

video to TV

I have the HP dv9260nr which seems to have all the same specs as what you showexcept I do not have the TV tuner. I use an S cable to S connection for the video and a 2.5 mini plug on the computer and to RCA audio into the surround sound. I find it to be very good. Couple that with Netflix and you have access to a lot of movies to watch. Next I will be connecting to my Toshiba DVD recorder with 80 meg of hard drive to see if I can record for delayed playback. Should be able to but have not yet made the connections as every thing works so well as is. I may also experiment with some of the Slysoft products I have, which for other DVD functions have never let me down yet. Just haven't tried Slysoft with Netflix yet.

Using HDMI

Just connect the HDMI cable from the PC to the TV

Go to Display properties and change the display to the TV. Once connected the PC will see the TV.

Go to Audio properties and switch the audio to the external source. Caution if you start a movie before changing the audio, the sound will not switch over. You will have to close your movie app(windows media player)and restart it.

A second option is to run audio cables, if you do this you probably won't have to change the audio settings.
