From what you tell, it looks more like a BIOS screen then a Windows XP screen.
What happens if you press esc?
What happens if you press f10?

With a laptop from 2006 or 2007 repair most likely is a bad idea (too expensive). So better start thinking about buying a new one.

- That's OK. So it goes inside the BIOS setup; that is very much inside. Then you change the date and time and all other settings that need changing and then ...?
- And what happens when you press esc?
Please tell the whole story in enough detail if you want to get effective help.

This might be simple issue of replacing the CMOS-battery if your laptop has such. Does it have one? What voltage do you measure on it? is the laptop battery still OK and used, or is it removed and do you run with a power adapter only?

hpdv 2000,Windows xp, if I switch on Microsoft Window logo appears. Then hp invent logo appears with icons press esc ( to change boot order) and press F10( to enter set up). It is not going inside further. The Windows logo and hp invent logo gets repeated without going inside further. Please suggest.

Do the necessary changes for example (date and time) and exit the BIOS setup. It will reboot and (hopefully) go further now. if not, time for repair or a new laptop.
