HP Windows Vista keys light up black screen when powering up

by spaganya / November 11, 2008 4:05 AM PST

I am going insane. Recently, either after i have shut down the computer, or if it goes into hibernate stage, when i go to start the computer or wake it up, the keys light up like normal, the DVD drive boots up (you can hear it) but the screen is completely black. nothing. nada.

I have tried all the restart things i can think of. usually what happens is that i endup doing a cold restart by holding down the power key til it turns back on, and 90% of the time when it turns back on, it still has the black screen.

every now and then the computer works with no problem. seriously i dont know what is wrong with it. Also sometimes when it does boot up and goes to the windows vista sign in, i put in my password and it sits for about 1-2 mins with a black screen before the desktop appears.

anyone know if this is a computer hardware issue? operating issue? i have tried taking programs that are unnecessary out of the startup, making sure theres no outside disk, usb stuff or anything hooked up.

HELP!!!

I have an HP dv2415nr
runs on Vista home premium with the SP1 update
AMD Turion 64x2 1.80Ghz
1GB ram
32 bit OS
NVidia GeForce Go 6150

Different model but SOLVED!

Too similar an issue. But here's my solution. NO I WILL NOT DISCUSS THAT IT IS NOT A SOLUTION. I'm taking it and running fine now.

I tracked my hangup down to USB devices. So I changed my setup.

Was:
Laptop USB -> USB Hard Disk.

Now:
Laptop USB -> USB 2.0 Hub -> USB Hard Disk.

Not to sound mean or such but some will fault me as this is not a true fix. For me, it's good enough.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
