The best solution I can give when that dreaded blue screen appears is to reformat your hard disk and make a clean installation of OS. I suggest you install Windows 7, it is far better than Windows Vista in almost everything. I think your recovery disc includes the Windows 7 OEM that comes in the HP package.
In my knowledge, Windows 7 does not support downgrading. So I assume that your attempt to downgrade your OS to Windows Vista causes your system's trouble.
My HP laptop had really been acting slowly lately, so I decided to restore back to Vista and decided to forgo Windows 7. That was where all of the trouble started. I turned off the PC, and pressed escape at logon, brought up options. Pressed F11, and the PC just went back o booting up as Windows 7. So, decided then to use the HP tool that fixes that off of their website in the downloads section. It worked, and I ran HP System Recovery at bootup. It resinstalled VIsta, then when it was time to install of the drivers at the new "first bootup", it said "Error with Windows installation, please reinstall Windows". So I ran system restore once again, and the same error message popped up at the "first bootup". So then I thought that I was out of luck, so then I did my last ditch effort and tried to reinstall Windows 7. That didn't work, it just gave error messages at boot. I decided then to phone HP and get this done once and for all. The guy at HP sent me recovery discs. I got them 2 days later and they didn't work. The re-installation of the partition worked, but when I pressed F11 in the bootup menu, it loaded, then spat out the classic, dreaded Blue Screen of Death. And this is where this tale ends. Can anyone give me a hand? The real model name is the HP Pavilion dv6, and help would be most appreciated. I could wait for the box that HP sent for repairs, but I have to leave for holidays in 2 weeks. A fast fix would be great. Thanks guys!
