hp scanjet 6300c and ready to scream

Jan 9, 2005 9:32AM PST

I have an HP precision scanjet 6300c. I have never had a problem with it until now. When I open the program it says, ?scanner could not be initialized? (scanner not found). I have done the following: reconnected usb and power. Unplug power and let sit. Uninstalled and reinstalled software. I have power to it and light is on. Device manager recognizes the scanner no yellow exclamation marks. Then i emailed hp and they had me uninstall software and ports and download 90mb software(6 hrs. later) and reinstall it. I am still getting the same message. scanner shows up in device mgr and says is working properly. go to scanners icon in control panel and it says it is unavailable. i had done some critical updates in microsoft and dont know if that set it off. but i have never had this problem before

Did you accept any "drivers"?

If so, and depending on your OS, go back.

As to the scanner, our HP's don't last forever. When I see this, I test the scanner on another machine, then and if it fails I toss it and go get a new one.

just got this message from hp
Jan 9, 2005 10:06AM PST

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE FOLLOWING?
To resolve the issue, extract the following files from the Windows 98
CD-ROM to: C:\Windows\System

* HPSJVXD.VXD
* HPSJVXD.EXE

Extract the following file from the Windows 98 CD-ROM to:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers

* USBSCAN.SYS

NOTE: Files may be extracted using the System File Checker in
Windows 98. To access this tool go to the Windows desktop.
Select Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then
System Information. Within Microsoft (R) System
Information select Tools, then System File Checker.

Once these files have been extracted to these directories, restart the
computer and open the scanner.

This should resolve the issue. If you need further assistance, please
reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Jan 9, 2005 10:22AM PST

No problem... Just typo what's not important.
Jan 9, 2005 10:28AM PST

You'll see me typo a lot. All we can try to do is to concentrate on the "error messages" and file names. The rest rarely makes much of a difference.

Good luck!

I have the same problem with my 6200C
Jan 29, 2005 10:08AM PST

I have had the same problem with my HP 6200C. I did the following and maybe it will work for you as well. I am running Windows XP, and what I found worked, is under Control Panel the Camera/Scanner section -- right click on the device and select Properties. Windows said that the device was ready. So I clicked on "Test scanner" and I got back a "Test Successful" window. After this, my scanner worked fine.

Hope this works for you.

Problem: 6300c scanner showed ?Scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found)? error.
