These scanners use a line scanner CCD device. Your failure is much too like what I see when the CCD has failed. It's not user replacable and may not be offered as a piece part.
Last rites? Test on another machine.

Hello. Can anybody help me with this problem, please. I have an HP Scanjet 5470c and my warranty has expired (it was of no use to me, by the way). I was informed by HP Customer Service that I have to pay $30 which would last me two weeks for technical support in order for them to get me through the problem. I don't have the spare funds to spend and in the long run I am thinking that it might even be cheaper to just save up and buy a new scanner rather than pay $30, and then have the problem re-occur. I would appreciate it if anyone could share some good technical advice with me. Here is the problem:
When I scan an image or text, I get a solid blue background (gray, if black and white); or horizontal blue lines of varying width all over the page (sometimes, the blue section is only at the bottom, sometimes it is spread out. On rare occasions,I get lucky and can get a good clean (white background) scan). I also sometimes get wavy lines that appear like a screen when you print the image or text.
The wavy lines do not show on the preview (I assume because they are finer lines); the wider blue line sections show on the preview.
What solutions have I applied?
According to the Troubleshooting tips which came with the software, cleaning the glass will due the trick. This does not really work. It changes how the blue lines and wavy lines appear, but 99% out of 100% I do not get a clean scan.
Does anyone have experience and solutions to share, please?
Many thanks.
