HP Scanjet 5470 c Imaging Problem

Mar 25, 2005 7:17AM PST

My scanner images poorly with all scans looking decidedly green, with poor detail and illegible text. I have utilized all resolution and other troubleshooting solutions to no avail. As well, printing the image gives you exactly what the image shows: garbage. The scanner used to work just fine with existing computer (Dell) and operating sytem (Windows XP). Any suggestions.

My old scanner did just that.

To test the scanner we installed it on 2 other machines and it was just the same. Later we learned the imager in the scanner fails just as you describe. And... repair costs exceed replacement cost.

Scanner poor image

Before you give up, remove the scanner driver and software. Go to HP website and look for new updated driver and software. HP seems to constantly update and rework both their drivers and software. Also besure to check your cable, if using a printer port or SCSI cable you could have a cable problem, or if using a USB cable I have found some scanners had poor spike protection for their USB ports on the scanner and I could not use the USB, but the printer port past through did work.

Hope that will help. Also make sure the light comes on bright and white color, the older the scanner is the dimmer the light gets.

Last do not forget that any computer needs its files defragmented occasionally, I know you can have problems with CD burning and other digital work if the drive can not easily access the files you are using.
