Question

HP Scanjet 3970 - Scanner Driver Installation Help

Dec 22, 2013 3:03AM PST

The HP Scanjet 3970 is a pretty old scanner; I need it to scan a couple of negatives to my computer but I just can't seem to install the scanner.

My computer is running 32-bit Windows 7 Enterprise, for which there are no compatible 3970 drivers, so I got Windows XP Mode and tried to install it through that but it just doesn't seem to work.
I downloaded the XP drivers and software, installed it, wouldn't work, removed it, installed again, won't work, repeat, repeat, repeat.

My computer, NOT IN XP MODE, recognizes the scanner as "USB Composite Device" (in the Device Manager) and not as an imaging device, and I tried manually installing the drivers through the Device Manager by selecting the appropriate .INF file, but it keeps saying the drivers are up to date and all that.
Then I tried to do the same in XP Mode but my computer in XP Mode doesn't even recognize the scanner - it's not anywhere in the Device Manager.

What could be the problem? How do I install it?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer
Piece of software called VueScan
Dec 22, 2013 7:21AM PST

is able to drive just about any scanner out there.

Available for Windows, it comes with a free demo period.

Check their website for compatibility with your scanner.

Just because it's nearly Christmas, I took a look and found that your scanner is supported.

I just deleted a post where this member complained a game he downloaded from a torrent didn't run (he asked at yahoo also). So I doubt if he's willing to do something as strange as paying for software. Don't you have a link to a free cracked version for him?

There's a very interesting error in your message. You probably didn't realize it.

The correct expression is "Gelukkig nieuwjaar" without space between nieuw (new) and jaar (year). Dutch, like German, tends to combine short words into longer words, especially if both are nouns. So it's bankrekening, not bank rekening (bank account) and autoverzekering, not auto verzekering (car insurance) and e-mailadres, not e-mail adres (e-mail address) and projectmanager, not project manager.
But, unluckily, the influence of English on the Dutch is so big that younger people (I happen to read a lot of texts written by students) find it difficult to adhere to the simple rule "NEVER write 2 consecutive nouns; always make it one".

But now I realise that nieuwjaar (newyear) is a combination of an adjective and a noun into a new noun. That's much more uncommon.
