It might be the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service that might be disabled. This service is required to detect cameras and scanners.
When I install the scanner, I get a lot of warnings in the system log, saying "The server could not be started". I guess it is DCOM servers, when I uninstall the scanner and then reinstall it, I get a DCOM error (not a warning), and contrary to the warnings, this doesn't disapear again. HP's update function has a patch wich supposedly should solve "a problem with installing and reinstalling". But it doesn't seem to work. So I tryed a more radical approach: I cleaned the registry for any and all references to "HP", "Hewlet-Packard" and "ScanJet". Then I can make a new installation, but now I get a Usrenv warning (a process used your registry at log-off time...). The most annoying thing is, that the scanner seems to work fine, but I have problems with other .NET programs.
Can anybody tell me, how I can configure DCOM so this works ?
I have a Asus a7v8x-x motherboard, 3 GB ram, an old AGP card from a scraped computer (yes, I have tried another videocard - same problem), a Pinnacle PCTV Pro card, and a level 1 wireless network adaptor. I have checked for interrupt conflicts, this should be OK.
Hope to hear from someone smarter than me !
