After experiencing the same HP f1703 blackout issues as everyone else here and after reading these messages, I wrote an e-mail to HP's CEO (using the link on the HP Web site). Long story short, I wrote the e-mail Friday and this (Monday) morning, I received a call from HP saying they would replace my monitor for free even though it is out of warranty and I don't even remember exactly when it was bought. The only stipulation is that I have to send the old monitor back to them (free of charge).
In my e-mail, I explained that I had tried the monitor on multiple computers and power sources and had the same issue, as well as reinstalled drivers, uninstalled graphics cards, etc. etc. I also mentioned that there are several mentions of this problem on the internet, as well as the fact that several other people have fixed the problem themselves by soldering the coils.
So, if anyone else wants to give that a try...
My new monitor is supposed to be here on June 22, so I'll keep you up to date if more problems arise!
