HP QuickRestore System Recovery CD help

Sep 26, 2005 1:02PM PDT

I have a hp ze4315 pavilion notebook that I bought used. I have not stored anything on it that I want to keep. I would like to restore the hard drive to its original factory condition to get rid of the prior owners stuff. I have the hp quickredtore system recovery cds (4 disks). I have followed the quickrestore instructions - preparing to restore and restoring your original system software.
1. turn off your notebook
2. insert the quickrestore cd into the cd-rom drive
3. restart the notebook
4. follow the on-screen instructions
5. if prompted for the windows certificate of authenticity number, obtain the number from the label on the bottom of the notebook
I have followed these and when it asks for the language I click english and hit enter and the next screen asks if I am sure I want to continue because I will lose all my stored documents, files, etc. When I hit enter a black screen with the letter C. appears and if I hit enter again another letter C; appears below the first and then all I can do is see that black screen. I then turn off the computer and start over and the same thing happens.
Would someone please explain what I am doing wrong or what I can do to restore my hard drive to its original factory condition? Thanks if you will help.

I get to the Quick restore page and it asks restore factory image and I can not click on the next button. I can go back to the previous page but not the next. What is the problem?

some things to check

I don't know if this will help, but I read that HP recommends the following:

1. remove all peripherals, including PC-Cards
2. undock the system
3. use AC power supply

In addition to that,

make sure the CDs are clean (no scratches).

Got it to work

I finally got it to go past the screen that asked if I was sure I wanted to do what I wanted to do. I was really getting frustrated and just kept holding and/or kept hitting the enter key and it went to the next screen! Thanks for your help.
