The full version driver for these type of printer are no longer available as the printer which you are using is very old. In order to use the scan feature make sure that your printer is connected and it is printing and it will get installed after you plug in the USB cable .An icon will be formed in the printer page in the control panel , what you can do is right click on the printer and there you may find an option to scan.
or else go to ms paint and click on file and then click on from scanners and cameras.
hope you find a way of scanning after following these steps

you can try these steps
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
In the right pane of Registry Editor, double-click Common Administrative Tools.
In the Value data box , type the following line, and then click OK:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools
On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.

I tried this as stated above this seems to work only for the USB cable version.

Install VMware Player under Win7, and create a virtual XP machine (need to install XP OS, add a parallel port under the virtual machine settings.

XP should automatically detect the printer and scanner.

I had this same problem, and I was able to get my PSC 500 to scan. Note: Win7 XP mode did not work, as it will not add the parallel port.
