HP PSC 2355 Ready but not printing

Nov 23, 2009 8:31PM PST

HP psc 2350 series, Vista Home Premium SP2.

Hi,

I can see the printer in Control Panel>Printers. It's the default printer, printer status is ready. I can print a test page from the printer's setup menu.

When I print a document (from Notepad), the document appears in the print queue with status 'Error - Printing'. Nothing is printed.

Note1: I tried reinstalling HP software suite. During installation, when asked to turn on and connect printer to USB port, the printer was not detected. I completed installation after clicking the 'connect printer later' box.

Note2: I may well have done something dumb. Some weeks ago, in an attempt to speed up my sluggish laptop, I disabled/stopped some windows services (msconfig). I found a website that recommended the services to disable and blindly followed its recommendations. Everything was hunky dory up until now.

Thanks, Figs.

Go back and look for one for Spooler. It should be set to automatic and be started.

Since you are running Windows Vista you may have to go to HP's website and download the Win Vista driver package to make that unit work. Go to HP DRIVERS AND SUPPORT, key in your model number, download the Vista driver package. Uusually I save the software to Documents, you can run it to the system from there or you can make a hard copy (burn to CD}, your choice.

OK. Slightly embarrassed about this - USB cable had come loose from back of printer.

Lesson: Never assume a reason for your PC problem.

Humble apologies, and thanks, to those who wasted their time on this.

NO, let us thank you for returning an honest reply. It was an answer that directly fixed your problem. More importantly, others that lurk or search for such fixes may find yours and help those in the same situation.

Do NOT be embarassed, am just glad you checked that. We have all had such experiences, myself recently with one of my scanners, uhhhhh, I hadn't seated the cable all the way, so had the same basic issue. it happens to everyone at one time or another.
