HP PSC 2210 won't print with Windows 7

Oct 30, 2009 11:19PM PDT

I have an HP PSC 2210 that was working fine with Vista but when I upgraded to Windows 7 it stopped printing. I haven't tried scanning so I don't know if that works. It does copy and Fax just fine. When I try to print it makes noises like it is getting ready to print but nothing comes out. I have tried printing from MapQuest (using Mozilla Firefox) and Calendar Creator 10. When I look at the printer in Printers and Devices (it does show up there) it shows no pending jobs. It also won't print a test page, same reaction as above.

It didn't work

I tried turning off the printer and unplugging the USB cable and turning the printer back on and plugging the USB back in and that didn't help. Should I have done more? If so what?

Your post is a little incomplete.

Many forget motherboard or other drivers. Today's owners need an OS that does this for them. Even 7 doesn't do that.

Then again there could be a Norton or other issue.

More info about my computer
Oct 31, 2009 11:24PM PDT

I will start with: I had the same setup with Vista, software & hardware, and it worked fine (for Vista). I am connected to a home LAN but this printer is not included because I wanted to use the scanner. I have more than one Anti Virus system: AVG Free 8.5, Avast!, Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus. Excessive, I know, but the printer was working. The computer is an eMachines T5274 with 2GHz and 2GB memory. Anything else?

And how did it get Windows 7 on it?

If an upgrade it is still far from automatic for the drivers for motherboard and more. I re-read your posts and can't see where you searched for and installed the remaining drivers.

Again, this is not just you but most of us that need an OS to do this for us. While 7 is a little better we need much better in this regard as most owners do not want to be computer engineers.

I upgraded from Vista

I searched the HP website for drivers for PSC 2210 and it said that there were none, that the Windows 7 Update Driver in the OS has a basic driver included. When I installed Windows 7 I'm sure I selected "Use recommended settings". I have also tried Method Two, "Set Windows Update to Automatic" (it was already on automatic) and disconnected and reconnected the printer, all to no avail. I also did a general search on Yahoo for "HP PSC 2210 drivers" but the websites that came up with after-market drivers make me nervous.

And my replies

Were not about the printer drivers. If this printer does not print it's more like one of two things.

1. Motherboard drivers.
2. A dead printer.

I can see how most will think its a printer driver but its not in this case. There is one remaining issue that I just ran into. My friend couldn't print. Fixed it in a snap by using File, Print and choosing the printer. They had spent a week installing printer drivers too. They thought all they had to do was click the Print icon.

this link is not a driver. this link tells you to let your pc use windows update to find the correct driver. all this did for me is tell my pc that my printer is now a disk drive . . .

Windows 7 had an update that I installed that fixed the problem. Thank you everyone.
