Question

HP Pro 8600 Premium software causing blue screen error.

May 26, 2012 4:14AM PDT

I have already been to HP and downloaded the latest drivers, etc. If I turn the all-in-one off no more problems. And the printer is connected to the computer with a USB cord. The computer is a brand new dell vostro with windows 7 Professional 64bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm not good at repacking.

What does

the BSOD say? Full message please as it might contain information pointing to the problem.

Are you saying it is the software that is causing problems and not the printer itself?

BSOD goes so fast I am unable to get the information you requested. Printer or software not sure. When printer is turned off no problems. I do remember the words on the BSOD memory dump something.....sorry I can't be more specific.

Ahh we can fix that

There is a setting in Windows to "Automatically restart on system failure" and we can disable that. This means that the next time the system BSODs it will halt on the blue screen so we can then write down the message.

The only way to continue after that is to do a hard shut down which means to press and hold down the power button on the computer until the screen goes dark. This will either reboot the computer or shut it down. If it shuts down we can then wait for about 10 seconds to allow the disk to stop spinning before we restart.

On restart Windows 'may' take us to an options screen and if it does we can select "Start Windows normally" and press Enter.

How to disable that setting.

Control Panel > System, (if in Classic View, or CP > System and Security in Category view, then System), then select System Protection in the left hand column.

In the new window select the Advanced protection tab. In this tab click the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button.

In the new window, under "System failure", remove the tick for "Automatically restart", then OK/Apply/OK.

It would seem
May 28, 2012 4:45AM PDT

that Stop: 0x0000003B relates to a hardware problem or a recent hardware change. Have there been any hardware changes?

That said, Microsoft also reports this STOP Error code when using an IEEE 1394 device. IEEE 1394 is another term for Firewire. Are you using any Firewire devices?

Here's Microsoft's article; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980932

They are not hardware changes

unless you mean they are both connected to the computer by firewire.

But hardware changes are hardware inside the computer, new video card, ethernet card or such.

I'm learning. No nothing connected by firewire, both by USB cables. At the windows support link they have a hotfix, do you think I should try it?
thanks for youre patience.

Personally I wouldn't
May 28, 2012 10:41PM PDT

That hotfix only seems applicable for the error they mention which is Firewire connections.

I see no problems with compatibility between Windows 7 and this printer. Sometimes newer OSes and older printers are not compatible and that is never solved properly. But HP plainly say this all-in-one is suitable for Win 7.

I wonder if you should start over. The general rule is that printer software should be installed before attaching the printer and I wonder if that wasn't done here.

Try this. Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the computer. I would normally use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the Notification area, (near the clock), to disconnect USB devices. If the icon isn't visible it might be when you click the 'up' arrow in that notification area.

Now, uninstall the printer software from Start > "Devices and Printers". Right click your printer, then select "Remove device".

Next, uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > Programs and Features.

When the software is uninstalled, restart the computer. This updates system settings and the registry.

Reinstall the software and update the driver if necessary.

Attach the printer, then turn the printer on.

Any difference or the same problem?

BSOD - Fix
Aug 21, 2012 12:08PM PDT

Diffdrummer,
I ran into this same issue with both an HP M6 and HP M7 laptop, while getting my son setup for his freshman year at college. The HP M6 had web camera problems and the BSOD when connected to the HP 8600 Plus via USB cord. Took the M6 back and got the M7. The M7 web camera worked and the overall performance is much better. However onced connected to the HP 8600 Plus via USB cable, we would recieve the dreaded BSOD within 15 minutes or so. Made one change to the HP 8600 Printer settings and has now been 5 days with no BSOD. SOOO without further delay drum role please here is the fix.
Solution:
Follow these steps in the order to resolve the issue.

Change the ink alerts setting as follows:
1. Double-click the HP product icon on the desktop, or click Start ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click your HP product.
2. Under Shopping Resources , click Estimated Ink Levels .
3. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
4. Click the box next to Only show me ink alerts when I print , and then click Close to save the change.
5. Restart the computer. It is important that you restart the computer to resolve the issue.
6. That's it!
Let me know if it worked!

Re:BSOD Fix

My printer is already set to this alret and I still get the BSOD.
It had stopped for a while and now its back full steam again.....4 times in 15 minutes.
I notice when clicking print on a web browser it ALWAYS causes the BSOD. My operating system is Windows 7, this never happened with XP

I've uninstalled HP office inklet pro 8600 plus software, used L7700 series software and it stopped. Reinstalled the HP 8600 software, it worked fine for a while then back to BSOD.

Love the printer, hate the computer crashes.
