Question

HP PRINTER SAYS CARTRIDGE MISSING/DAMAGED WHEN IT'S NOT

Nov 27, 2013 10:04AM PST

Help.

Put in new non-HP cartridge. Printer immediately said cartridge was missing or damaged. So far it's still saying that. Even after I purchased another new non-HP cartridge from another supplier and put it in the printer.

Printer is HP Officejet 6500A-Plus.

And what happens when you use an OEM HP cartridge?

HP PRINTER SAYS CARTRIDGE MISSING/DAMAGED WHEN IT'S NOT

That's not the issue. And anyway I controlled for that issue by using new cartridges from two different suppliers.

What I probably need to do is better clean the carriage in which the cartridges sit. What I don't know is how best to do that.

I think I would google that.

There are those fixyourownprinter sites and many youtube videos. But I lost count of non-maker cart issues. You may get a client that will get uppity about trying the maker's cart but it's a time honored thing to try.

Today we have to consider more 2 year and over printers to be BER.

BER?

BER = Beyond Economical Repair.

With a counter rate of 100+ bucks and new printers for less you learn about BER. This has caused a lot of folk to write about sliced bread and other topics.

Newer ink carts have a IC chip buried in them or the printer acknowledges such chip and if it sees it's too old date, it won't accept or causes issues. There are IC resetters setups that suppose to counter this but that is something for non-OEM ink carts or refills. While you state its a new ink cart from non-OEM source, it in itself could be past dated, doesn't have the IC chip or sitting on the shelf just got older or re-use of old IC is way past its date because it wasn't reset. There is a very good chance just installing a new HP ink cart will clear the problem. I suggest you google for info on your model# printer for all that.

Hp printer, etc.

I've been around printers for a long time and have seen issues with aftermarket refilled cartridges, ESPECIALLY HP. Typically when this issue arises I can just about bet you that a NEW HP(OEM) cartridge will fly with the printer. As you stated, the HP cartridges are coded.
