Question

HP printer incompatibility with IOS 11

With the update to IOS 11 printing from an updated iOS device to an HP Officejet Pro 8600 results in a tiny print in the top left hand corner of the page.
If I print from an IOS device that hasn’t been updated it prints normally. I can also print successfully from an IOS 11 device to my Canon printer.
Any others with this problem? Any solutions would be appreciated

That seems a question for Apple and/or HP. I don't think it's something you can solve yourself.

Thank you.
Thought that may be the case. Just wondered if anyone else had a printer problem after IOS 11 update.

Any update?

I’m having exactly the same issues, any update or fix from HP?

As noted.

Back to HP and Apple for status. No member so far works for either so it's best to check with the makers.

My solution to HP printing in IOS 11

In reply to: I have same issue,

I have waited thru the several IOS updates to see if this will be resolved. No such luck. Have resorted to using the HP Smart App to to print. Bit of an extra work around but I have got it working smoothly. Why do we need to be in a hurry always!!!
Only printing which doesn’t work is the Apple mail as there is no facility in the mail app to Share or “Open in .....” so have moved my mail to Office Outlook as I am an Office subscriber

HP printer incompatibility with IOS 11

In reply to: HP printer incompatibility with IOS 11

I'm amazed that this is the only place I've found where somebody has this problem! I have exactly the same problem but it seems to be only when I use Pages of Numbers. PDFs and other files are fine. It is very frustrating and I can't find the answer. I have been on to Apple but they don't know either. If anybody finds the solution please pass it on!

I suspect......

....that HP will need to release a driver update to solve the issue. I think that Apple won't be of much help in this matter.

Further to Scotstoun’s post above I have found also that pages and numbers prints in this tiny right hand corner format but Microsoft Office Word and Excel print correctly from an iPad. I agree that a new HP driver is probably needed but good luck trying to find out how to contact HP for any queries other than those in their set help & FAQ pages. I’m trying from Australia but keep being redirected to the US site whenever I look for help.

See Apple and HP forums! This problem is well known!

In reply to: HP printer incompatibility with IOS 11

Check out both Apple and HP forums for much discussion of this. It has been a problem since beta versions of iOS 11 according to one person I have spoken with.

HP suggest installing and using their HP Smart app. This does work, but is an inelegant solution to be very kind and does not enable printing, for example, from email. A cumbersome work around at best!

iOS 11.0.1 does not fix this problem, so we hold our collective breath for 11.0.2 or beyond! From my perspective I put the responsibility mainly with Apple - HP have produced something for iOS11 that does print, so it is technically possible. To what extent any app can be independent of the OS for such core things as printing I am not competent to judge, but it seems to me that if it can be done in ANY way from iOS11 then Apple ought to be capable of making it happen. HP obviously have code that does it, so the "we don't have a driver" excuse seems lame to me!

This work around didn’t help me... any other suggestions? I’m wasting a lot of paper and it’s getting annoying testing workarounds! Thanks

Fix for HP printers to make them work with iOS 11

In reply to: HP printer incompatibility with IOS 11

I found a fix for this in an HP forum!

- make sure you have the latest firmware
- go to control panel of printer and restore factory settings
- when it re-boots, turn of IP6, reconfigure wifi to connect to your network (if it has eprint you will need to re-set that too)

Airprint should now work - it did for me on HP Envy 7640 and it is reported to do so for other models.

Good luck

A possible fix

In reply to: HP printer incompatibility with IOS 11

Just tried reconfiguring the network settings of the printer, turning off IPv6, as suggested by another post. Tried printing a document before and after the configuration change and it has fixed the problem. Could this be a simple issue with IPv6?

Seems OK for me - now on iOS 11.2.6 and everything still working just fine after fix described earlier.
Any chance your printer has had an update?
