Resolved Question

HP Printer

Aug 23, 2011 2:09AM PDT

My neighbor changed her SNID and PassPhrase on her network so now her printer doesn't work - I added the printer as the default but the network doesn't recognize it - I added the port and the network doesn't recognize it - I tried running the set up wizard from the HP support site and it wouldn't run so I tried to run the diagnostic software - ugh - Anyway - How do I create a manual communication from the printer to the router - I'm sure the entire communication problem is from the initial change in the snid and passphrase but I can't find a path to change the configuration data - I don't have a set up cd or anything either and don't see any type of printer settings in the router log in site -

How Is The Printer Installed? Shared From Computer? Network?
Aug 23, 2011 4:21AM PDT

Make and model of the printer? Computer operating systems that are trying to connect to the printer?

It's not quite clear how the computer is installed and for whom it doesn't work.. If the printer is installed on a local computer, then there's no reason why it shouldn't work from that computer.. But if it's installed on a local computer and you're trying to print to a shared, networked computer, then that's different.. Are you trying to print from YOUR computer to your neighbor's networked printer? Please be specific.

Occasionally, I have found the need to reset "sharing" on the local computer where the printer is installed. Try disabling sharing, then re-enabling the "sharing" of the printer..

On the other hand, if the printer is installed on the network as an IP address type install, then uninstall and remove the printer from the computer's printer lineup, and reinstall it again.

If there are both XP and Vista/Windows 7 computers on the network, be sure to install LLTD on the XP computer.. See the link below:

Hope this helps and let us know more.

For A windows 7 System - 64 bit wireless -
I'm just installign the default wireless set up on her computer - not mine -
It's always worked with out the WPS button - I've also uninstalled and reinstalled several times - I don't understand the multiple listing of the printer such as HP6940 HP6949{1} HP6949{2} HP6949{3} The default is three - Is it a registry for each installation - Nomatter how many times you delete them they re appear -
I just need to enter the snid and passphrase date like in this video - some how manually - or to find a set up wizard that works

Glad It's Fixed But Just A Note
Aug 25, 2011 2:35AM PDT

The reason you've got three listings for the same printer is because it wasn't correctly uninstalled previously. It explains why you've got (1), (2) and (3).. Before re-installing the printer, you should uninstall it correctly first.. This eliminates any duplicates.

To "reset the sharing", you must do it manually from the computer where the printer is installed.. In the "Devices and Printers" section, RIGHT click on the installed printer, choose "Printer Properties", then the "Sharing" tab and UNCHECK the box.. Restart the computer and go back to the same location and CHECK the box.

And yep, a bad ethernet cable will do that. Glad it was such a simple fix.

Hope this helps.

The ethernet cord was shorted so it couldn't locate the printer - I hate over looking the obvious - lol
