What causes communication problem between
printer and computer.I have hp solution center
that loads with the cd software. When i click on
it it says no hp devices detected, solution
center will now close.I have been on hp chat for hours in
two days trying to fix this.My computer is a hp slimline

turns off by itself also. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

HP 4180

Assuming you have the original CD that came with the unit, if it does NOT show Win Vista capability you would need to download the driver patch from HP SUPPORT AND DRIVERS online. If you have already done that and it still doesn't fly the guess would be the unit is toast for one reason or another. Usually when I do a driver patch download, instead of running to the system I save to download or documents and run it to the system from there which also gives you the option( at a later date) to burn a hard copy of the patch to disk (CD). Hope this might help.

C4180 issue

Which patch did you download? 32 or 64 bit? There should be two options. To see whether you operating system is 32 or 64, go to control panel click on system and it will show which it is, that MAY be the issue so take a look at that, keep me posted.

Both patches are there, the first one just says WINDOWS VISTA, the next on the list says 64 bit, you need the first one.

When i go to software drivers page after putting in the printer
and operating system i click windows vista. That is where i am not seeing that patch. When i go down the list all i see is the one about the communcation between the printer and computer.I tried running that and it said not applicable.Am i missing something?
Thanks Phil for helping me.
